As you have almost certainly heard, there was an incident the other night in Lexington, Kentucky, in which the media is trying to paint a picture of crazed Rand Paul supporters stomping on an innocent protester just because they are out of control. If you look at the event with no context, there appears no possible excuse for it. This perception is however entirely inaccurate, for reasons I will detail. The first thing you need to know is that the woman was brought in from another State (apparently Massachusetts) by the Democrats as a paid agitator working for MoveOn.org. Conway has obviously decided he's OK with this, since he's trying to use her work to defeat Paul without actually having a defensible platform. Her job (for which she has received checks from MoveOn.org), as described on their website, was to "Stage a scene for Republican candidate’s supporters. The reactions of a candidate’s supporters to the RepubliCorp brand is a compelling part of the event. Try to position at least one scene near or in the crowd of supporters, and try to capture their response to your action on video." Here is the web link: http://www.theblaze.com/blog/#post-13971 (I link The Blaze, since MoveOn.org will take this down soon, if they haven’t already). The tactic is to work in two person teams, with one provocateur, and one camera person. What they tell them to do is: "Find the Republican candidate. Our interaction with the Republican candidate will be the most media-worthy part of the event. Don’t expect to get very close while carrying signs or an over-sized certificate, but instead get a pair of people (the RepubliCorp spokesperon and a videographer or photographer) to join the greeting line, and present a small version of the award to the candidate. More: "Find the media and go to them. Your action is for the media. Our goal is to reach undecided or swing voters with a message about the RepubliCorps takeover of Congress. For that reason, everything you do should be for the media, or for taking our own video and pictures that we then share. You don’t need to engage or persuade anyone at Republican events, and you should avoid spending time talking to them." Note, according to their own manual they don’t want dialogue or rational discussion. This isn’t part of the method. And empirically, this is what happened. If you watch this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yiLeud-sxrM ) what you see is her standing in the line, and then running up to Paul’s open window, and shoving a cardboard sign in his face. She is promptly moved along by a man in a suit. Towards the end, you see her run around the front of the car, rushing towards Paul’s back. This is literally TEXTBOOK Agitation Propaganda. In the full version of the video that has made the rounds, you get the other angle. Here is that video, which is likely different than what you’ve seen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SbnEy_U9pYk What you see is Rand Paul getting out, looking somewhat shaken, then hear “this lady”, and see someone pointing, then “hey, hey, hey”, then “Where are the police at?”, then “get the cops out here”, then “Get the cops” two times, then “get the police” three times. While this is happening they are basically leaning on her—while she’s grinning like she’s getting tickled, please note—then take her down. What they are obviously doing is restraining her, since she just shoved a sign in Paul’s face, then tried to charge him again. You don’t beat people up for that, but you also don't just let them get away with it. That's why they were calling for the cops. There is no interpretation of the situation possible except that they thought she was acting inappropriately, and needed to be dealt with by the cops. And to the point, getting a rise out of someone--and filming it--was the POINT and PURPOSE of her being there. That’s why she was smiling. After many tries, they finally got usable video. She later claimed she was kicked in the head. This is a lie. Watch the video. She claimed she got a concussion. That is a lie. She refused medical care on the scene, then hours later tried and failed to get admitted to a local hospital, citing a concussion. They found no evidence for it. Note, they didn’t “treat” her: they found NO EVIDENCE of a concussion. Nor was she short of words and energy in following days, appearing on news networks. She claimed they beat her up. This is a lie. That is not what a beating looks like. A beating involves actually trying to hurt people. If they had been trying to hurt her, she clearly would have been hurt or dead. She did not file a complaint on the scene. Police did question her and her partner (remember, these people’s script requires working in pairs, and she had a cameraman), and both initially gave false ID’s. When told that was against the law and they could be arrested for it, both then admitted to being from out of State, and offered their real information. She claimed the following day that she heard Paul’s supporters plotting against her. Plainly, that is a lie. She was acting wildly erratic, as part of an effort to generate an event they could use for propaganda purposes, and which they got. Lexington Police, after a day’s delay, announced they were going to issue a summons for the “stomper”, Tim Proffitt, to appear in court to determine if he should face 4th degree, misdemeanor assault charges. Plainly, if they thought he was guilty, they would have arrested and charged him already. If he had done what she said he did, he should have been charged for attempted murder. Self evidently, the evidence against him will not improve. They already have a video. What must have happened is that the Lexington PD's initial impulse was to ignore it--since Proffitt thought they were countering a potential threat, and since no one was hurt--but then political pressure was brought on them to “do something.” This has enabled the Democrat-run Lexington Herald-Leader to continue reporting that the investigation is on-going, which will presumably be their story through Election Day, at which point they will drop it, as it was a non-story anyway. The media has been inexcusably sloppy in this case. They kept repeating that he stomped her in the head. Watch the video. It didn’t happen. Watch her when everyone backs away. She’s not hurt in the slightest. She was nudged down on her shoulder with perhaps 10% of Proffitt’s bodyweight, while they were yelling for the cops and telling her to “stay down”. Imagine, as one example, if he had actually stomped her hard, with his full bodyweight. That would have hurt her badly. He didn't do that. He used enough force to keep her from getting up, so they didn't have to take her down again. Unambiguously, they are restraining her, not attacking her. She is young and dumb, but as anyone else would know, the effects of getting kicked in the head are unmistakable, and quite often fatal, so it was foolish of her to commit herself publicly to a lie that couldn't possibly be true. To his discredit, Jack Conway, rather than distancing himself from the very openly stated tactics of MoveOn.org—which is an extremist group, as shown in the methods they use—has on the contrary tried to use this staged incident to advance his faltering campaign. He should not be allowed to succeed in this. The core truth is this: there can be absolutely no question--NONE--that those around Paul thought they were restraining a potentially threatening person. She was wearing a crazy wig, acting like she was on drugs, and patently trying to provoke the scene she eventually got. The simple, inescapable, horrible reality is that rather than tell the truth, and turn his back on these extremist tactics and people, he has ALIGNED HIMSELF WITH THE HARD LEFT TO GET ELECTED. No democracy can survive in a condition in which its members are kept ignorant of the truth. No democracy can survive whose leaders USE deception to get or keep power. Our media, and the Democratic candidate for Senate they support, are trying to lie to us to advance their agenda. FOR THIS REASON ALONE they should be opposed. And this is not a local problem, it is a NATIONAL problem. MoveOn is unquestionably trying the same sorts of things everywhere, and just hasn't hit paydirt like they did here. Vote for truth on Nov. 2nd, not falsehoods. Vote for people who don't rely on stunts, cheap tricks, unbacked assaults, and who can defend both political positions and moral values. In the Senate race, this only leaves one choice: Rand Paul. Please send this link to your liberal and conservative friends alike. At a minimum, they need to know the truth about these sorts of tactics, so they stop working. (and they do work, at the cost of rational dialogue). |
